A man immolated himself on the premises of Mandi police station in Saharanpur district this afternoon after a sub-inspector allegedly misbehaved with him and refused to lodge his complaint.

Locals staged a demonstration demanding action against the erring policeman. Saharanpur SSP D C Mishra said that SI Dataram Manoria had been sent to police lines and SP (City) Ajay Shanker Rai asked to conduct an inquiry.
Mishra also said he had ordered for lodging an FIR against two local mediapersons under Section 306 IPC (abetment of suicide) for instigating the man to immolate himself.
The SP (City) said that Saleem (45),a carpenter and resident of Khata Khedi locality, reached the police station around 3 pm. Since the SHO was not available,he met SI Manoria and requested him to lodge a complaint against a woman and her two sons for allegedly threatening him.
Rai said that the SI allegedly misbehaved with the complainant, ordered him to leave the police station and threatened to put him behind bars.
An upset Saleem took out petrol from a motorcycle parked outside the police station and sprinkled it on himself. Then he walked into the police station and set himself on fire. By the time the cops could douse the flames,Saleem had suffered over 60 per cent burns. He was rushed to the district hospital where he was referred to a private hospital in Dehradun.
