Six of the deceased belonged to Basti

As many as six persons belonging to a family in Karanpur village of Basti district died in Friday’s incident where a seven-storey building at Mumbra in Thane collapsed.

As many as six persons belonging to a family in Karanpur village of Basti district died in Friday’s incident where a seven-storey building at Mumbra in Thane collapsed. Among the deceased include two teenagers.

Villagers came to know about deaths through another villager,Ishtiyaq,who is working at a private firm in Thane. “Ishtiyaq told us till now bodies of six persons belonging to our village,including two children,have been recovered from the debris. Another identified as Imran,who was working in the building,got injured and is admitted at a hospital”,said T A Qureshi,pradhan of village Karanpur.

District Magistrate,Basti,Anil Kumar said they have also come to know that few persons who belonged to the village have died but no one had officially informed them.

According to Qureshi,on Friday late night Ishityaq called them and informed about the deaths. The deceased include Ishiyaq’s sister Shabia Khatoon (30) and her three-year-old son Mohammad Hisab. Others are Imran’s wife Saira Bano,sister Noorsaba,her husband Jamal and their child.

When contacted,Ishitiyaq said Imran was working in the building and staying along with his family on the ground floor,while other deceased persons were staying with him. Ishitiyaq said the last rites of the deceased will conducted in Thane itself.
