A CBI court in Ghaziabad today rejected the bail applications of former Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Pradeep Shukla and former MD and GM of UP Projects Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) Devendra Mohan and Ravindra Rai,respectively. All three face charges in the NRHM scam.
Shukla and the two officials will be in judicial remand till May 23. They were on interim bail since April 5.
Earlier, the court had issued non-bailable warrants against the three on March 22 and they surrendered before the court on April 5. The court had then granted them interim bails. The hearing on their bail applications was held today.
Shukla,Mohan and Rai are co-accused in a case related to irregularities in execution and implementation of the NRHM scheme registered by the CBI on January 19 last year. Shukla was arrested on May 10 last year but released on bail on August 9 as the CBI failed to file the chargesheet against him. The chargesheet was later filed on December 4 last year.
The case against Shukla and the UPPCL officials relates to contracts for maintenance of 40 district hospitals in UP,which were awarded to firms on forged/bogus documents involving an amount of Rs 160 crore. The firms allegedly paid gratification to the concerned officials of the health and family welfare departments and the UPPCL.
