After seven years of strained relations,BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former chief minister Uma Bharti shared a stage in UP. The occasion was a rally in Charkhari of Mahoba district from where Bharti is fighting the polls. It was Chouhan’s first day of campaigning in the state.

Bharti had strongly opposed the BJP move to make Chouhan the chief minister in 2005 replacing Babulal Gaur. Bharti was subsequently expelled from the party. She returned to the party in June last year.

Addressing the public meeting at a college ground in Ajnar village,Chauhan said,“Uma Didi had strengthened BJP in Madhya Pradesh. The way BJP has worked for development of MP,the party will do the same here in UP in leadership of Uma,” Chauhan said.

Chauhan said MP is just 20-km from Mahoba and he would be available in UP for help any time. “Uma Didi will be available for your help in UP and I will also help you from MP. If BJP comes to power in UP,it will implement the welfare schemes introduced in MP like Ladli Laxmi Yojna.”

In his address,Chauhan has reiterated the promises BJP had made in its election manifesto for UP. He said BJP government would provide cereals at the rate of Rs 1 per kilogram and loan to farmers at the interest rate of 1 per cent only. Uma Bharti said,“Shivraj is like my elder brother and both of us have no grudges. We have worked with each other in the past and will do the same in future.”

Addressing two other public meetings in Mishrikh and Maholi constituencies in Sitapur district,Chauhan has highlighted the achievements of the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat governments. “BJP has implemented welfare schemes in MP. In Gujarat, the BJP government has established good governance. If the BJP comes to power in UP,it will implement such schemes here and ensure all-around development and growth of every section of society,” he said.

Chauhan walked about 500 metres from the helipad to reach the stage at one programme in Sitapur. In his address,he said,“UP’s current chief minister could not walk without security as I have done a few minutes back. I do the same every day in MP. BJP’s every leader interacts with the common man in the same way,” he said.
