The Shia Central Board of Waqfs has decided to lodge an FIR against Rahil Islam, brother of MLA Shahzil Islam, for allegedly purchasing waqf property in Bareilly.
Shahzil Islam had won 2012 Assembly elections on Ittehad Millat Council ticket and had later joined Samajwadi Party. His wife Ayesha Islam contested 2014 Lok Sabha polls as an SP candidate from Bareilly.
Chairman of Shia Central Board of Waqfs, Syed Waseem Rizvi informed that as per rules waqf property can neither be sold nor purchased. According to records, waqf property in a Lakshmipur village was sold by one Tahawwur Ali Khan, who was its caretaker. Rahil Islam allegedly bought the said waqf property in 2011, when his brother Shahzil was a minister.
“We have given instructions for registering FIR against Rahil Islam and Tahawwur Ali Khan. Instructions have also been issued for cancellation of the sale deed,” Rizvi said.
The Waqf board has also initiated similar action in Allahabad against six other persons for their involvement in selling and purchasing waqf properties. Presently, 15 such cases are pending with the board, including the one involving Sajjadia Waqf, which was headed by Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad and was allegedly sold by him.
