Drafting a vision document to reach out to the Muslims in the state,BJP national general secretary Amit Shah has directed the district units in western UP to form booth-level teams in Muslim-dominated areas and ensure that a Muslim leads the set-up.
The party leaders have been asked to convince Muslims that BJP wants Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas and to ask them to associate with the party down to the booth level.
All 19 district units in western UP have been asked to prepare a list of such booths and complete the setting up of organisations with Muslim-participation by August 15. Shah will review the progress during district-level meetings that he is said to start soon.
State president of BJPs minority wing Rumana Siddiqui said that directives have been issued to all district presidents to set up organisation at every booth and ensure participation of minorities.
Sources said western UP has over 1,000 booths with more than 90 per cent Muslim population and the BJP had not set up organisations there because it had not been getting votes from these booths.
Saharanpur Nagar has a total of 362 booths with 125 of them dominated by Muslims. Amit Shahji has asked us to set up organisation in these Muslim-dominated booths and appoint a pramukh (head), Saharanpur Nagar district president of BJP Hemant Arora said, adding that workers have been asked to convince Muslims that BJP wants development for all and appeasement of none.
Arora said that some Muslim youths have shown interest in working with the BJP. Moradabad Mahanagar president Ritesh Gupta said that district minority wing has been assigned the task of identifying Muslims who hold influence in the area and can communicate the BJPs message in their community.
In Moradabad, there are 521 booths with around 191 dominated by Muslims. The BJP has yet to set up an organisation there.
