A manager at Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) in Mathura has been kidnapped allegedly for ransom. Although the incident took place on June 11,a case was lodged with the Mathura refinery police station on Wednesday evening by a GAIL official.
Mathura SSP NR Padmaja said Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar had left office along with the driver for his flat in GAIL colony nearby on Monday evening,but did not reach home. The driver was also untraceable.
A case of kidnapping has been registered and the police teams are on the job to trace him. The motive behind the kidnapping is yet to be known, the SSP said.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ram Lal Verma said that Bhatnagar had left his office in an SUV,which had been hired by the company. The mobile phones of the manager and the driver were switched off since then.
The police said the managers family live in Elora Enclave colony in Dayalbagh area of Agra. They have denied that Bhatnagar had any enmity or dispute with anyone.
The managers family members called up his office next morning after the domestic help at his flat told them that he had not returned home and they found his mobile phone switched off.
A police official said that special operation group teams of Mathura and Agra were camping in Haryana following some leads.
He said the role of the driver appeared suspicious as he had called up at the accounts section of GAIL late in the evening after the manager left office. The driver said the manager wanted Rs 3,000 to be transferred in his bank account immediately as he was leaving Mathura for some important work.
