Mayawati slams govt’s handling of law and order, induction of tainted ministers.

BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday slammed the Samajwadi Party government for “its casual approach towards law and order” and termed its one-year tenure as that of “Jungleraaj” and “Mafiaraaj”. She said the “the ruling family of the SP” was behaving like Roman emperor Nero.

The former UP chief minister said the state had witnessed more communal riots during the SP rule than those that happened under BJP governments.

Mayawati said while the whole country was worried about the criminalisation of politics and politicisation of crime, the SP government not only inducted people with criminal background into its cabinet but also made them ministers. She said the officers who acted against these criminals were punished.

She said Chief Minister Akhilesh had asked in Assembly during discussion on the DSP’s killing in Kunda whether the BSP’s chief minister went to the houses of distressed persons to share their grief.

“In this regard I want to say that every distressed family receives true satisfaction when they get justice and not from the shedding of crocodile’s tears at their house. First, such incident could not have happened during my government but if it happened, the guilty persons would have been punished,as it happened in the exceptional incident in Auraiya (where a BSP MLA had killed an executive engineer),” she said.

Mayawati said the SP government of “nephew and uncles”,despite having full majority, was suffering from instability because of infighting and directionlessness. And for this reason,it was shuffling officials like pack of cards to get self-satisfaction,she added.

In its one year the government had failed to utilise the budget meant for development works, indulged in “vulgar nepotism” and it was often criticised by the SP chief himself for various reasons, the BSP president said.

Mayawati said it was because of the failure of state government on law and order that industrialists were scared of investing in not just other parts of UP but even in Noida.

She said while her government had started power projects with private partnership in Bara and Karchhana, and had sanctioned similar projects in Etah,Lalitpur,Sonbhadra, the SP government has ignored the power sector which is the “backbone of development”.

The UP government, like that of Gujarat, was not giving due importance to democratic institutions as many commissions like Minority Commission,Scheduled Caste Commission and Other Backward Classes Commission have not been constituted in one year. She said the CM’s Janata Durbar has been reduced to a “showy photo event”.

Celebrations ahead

Akhilesh Yadav flags off Samajwadi Cycle Yatra on the eve of the SP government’s completion of one year in office,in Lucknow on Thursday. Cyclists Ranjeet Bachchan and Kalindi Nirmal Sharma will cover all 75 districts of the state during their tour.

Party office-bearers were asked to hold “grand events” and highlight achievements of the government at all district headquarters on Friday.

At these programmes the partymen have been asked to hold detailed discussions on achievements of the party in the last one year and distribute pamphlets among people.
