RSS man abducted from Agra

Rs 20 lakh ransom ‘demanded’

The state organising secretary of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA),which is affiliated to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),Maniram Pal (62) was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified miscreants from Agra’s posh Kamla Nagar locality on Sunday morning. The police said that a ransom of Rs 20 lakh has been demanded by the kidnappers.

A case has been registered at the New Agra police station and hunt is on to trace the kidnappers. The police said,last location of the kidnappers was traced at Dhaulpur district in Rajasthan bordering Agra. The Agra police,in cooperation with their Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan counterparts,are also conducting searches in the ravines along the UP-MP-Rajasthan borders. Pal is a native of Azamgarh district.

Both Agra police and RSS office-bearers,however,suspect Pal’s kidnapping was a case of mistaken identity,as leading businessmen lives at Kamla Nagar locality and the victim belongs to a middle-class family.

Sampark Pramukh of RSS’s state Braj unit Ashok Kulshestra confirmed that Pal is an organising secretary of VKA,working for the socio-economic uplift and development of indigenous tribes in the remote areas of India.

He added that Pal had gone to Agra to take part in a two-day session of VKA organised at Saraswati Vidhya Mandir in Kamla Nagar locality. The session started from Saturday. The volunteers of VKA,around 250,were staying at the Saraswati Vidhya Mandir. Pal was reportedly kidnapped while he went on a morning walk at 4.30 am at Kamla Nagar. There is no eye-witness to the incident.

The matter came to light when the alleged kidnappers first called up another office-bearer of VKA in Kanpur,Dr Ramakant,and informed him about the kidnapping. Circle Officer,Agra,Sameer Saurabh said the call was made from Pal’s cellphone.

In the second call to Dr Ramakant,the alleged kidnappers demanded ransom of Rs 20 lakh for his release,said the police.
