RSB Bangalore bag top honours

RSB Bangalore defeated Uttar Pradesh Secretariat 6-2 in the final to bat the top honours in the All India Civil Services Hockey Tournament 2008-’09 at Guru Govind Singh Sports College,here on Friday.

All India Civil Services Hockey Tournament 2008-’09

RSB Bangalore defeated Uttar Pradesh Secretariat 6-2 in the final to bat the top honours in the All India Civil Services Hockey Tournament 2008-’09 at Guru Govind Singh Sports College,here on Friday.

The first-half of the match witnessed a tough fight between the two teams,however,in the second-half RSB Bangalore team exercised complete domination.

Arif Idris succeeded in breaking the stalemate in the 10th minute of the play through a penalty corner (PC) awarded to UP in the 10th minute of the play. However,Rakesh Chalke scored the equaliser through a PC given to RSB Bangalore just four minutes later. Dodging defenders skilfully,Arif Idris netted another goal to put UP into lead again. In the 34th minute,RSB Bangalore forward MA Bopanna made full use of a pass from the left to level the scores once again.

The second-half belonged entirely to RSB Bangalore and the team showed a good amount of aggression in their game. Its forward KM Sommaiah succeeded in putting the team into lead in the 41st minute. Four minutes later HK Mahesh Kumar consolidated the lead further. PS Ajay Aiyappa capitalised on a penalty corner awarded to the Bangalore squad team in the 54th minute to make the score 5-2 in favour of his team. In the 62nd minute,Rakesh Chalke scored a well-timed goal to make the score 6-2 which was maintained till the final moments of the play.

In all,RSB Bangalore got 4 penalty corners while UP Secretariat was awarded 10 penalty corners.

The prize distribution function was held later in the day. Secretary Sports (UP) Rajan Shukla was the chief guest on the occasion. DRM NER Ashima Singh was the guest of honour. The tournament was held under the auspices of Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports Board and was organised by the UP Civil Services Players Association.
