LS polls To be pitted against Ajit Singh’s friend-turned foe Anuradha Chaudhary.

Former MP Shahid Siddiqui, who was disowned by the Samajwadi Party,is likely to contest the Lok Sabha election from Bijnor as a Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate.

The seat is presently held by Sanjay Chauhan of the RLD. Interestingly,SP has given ticket to Anuradha Chaudhary, friend turned foe of RLD president Ajit Singh,to contest from Bijnor.

The BSP is most likely to field former MP Malook Nagar from the constituency. Siddiqui had contested from Bijnor on the BSP ticket in 2009 but had to face defeat.

Bijnor constituency includes Meerapur and Purkazi Assembly segments of Muzaffarnagar,Bijnor and Chandpur segments of Bijnor district, and Hastinapur of Meerut.

“My candidature has not been finalised yet. But most of the people in RLD want that I should contest from Bijnor on their party ticket,” Siddiqui said.

He also stated that he had informally discussed the matter with RLD general secretary Jayant Choudhary.

“We have met several times. Jayant inquired about my plans and other things. But still I cannot claim that it is final,” Siddiqui stated.

Siddiqui was Rajya Sabha MP from SP between 2002-08 and also SP’s national general secretary.

Later,he left the party and contest Lok Sabha election on the BSP ticket in 2009 from Bijnor but lost. He then joined RLD but again switched loyalty and returned to the SP in 2012 before the Assembly elections.

After SP assumed power in the state,Siddiqui was disowned by SP’s national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav stating that he never was part of SP.

It was reported that Siddiqui had carried an interview of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a magazine owned by him which led to his ouster in July 2012.

“Since then I have not joined any party. I have no problem in RLD except that it is a small party and I have a large vision,” Siddiqui stated.

For RLD,Siddiqui fits well as there are nearly 4 lakh Muslim voters in Bijnor. The SP has already disturbed RLD’s equation by fielding Anuradha Choudhary,a Jat whose community nearly about 2 lakh in the constituency.

No party has named a Muslim candidate and RLD wants to grab the Muslim votes and make it difficult for noire Anuradha Choudhary who will contest on the SP ticket.
