A day before the winter session of the UP Assembly begins,BJP MLAs Suresh Rana and Sangeet Singh Som Wednesday gave privilege notices over their alleged illegal arrest in connection with the Muzaffarnafar riots and under the National Security Act (NSA).
Rana is an MLA from Thana Bhawan in Shamli while Sangeet Singh Som represents Sardhana constituency of Meerut. Both the MLAs claimed to have given privilege notices today in the office of Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey.
The privilege I get being an MLA has been breached by the UP government officials who arrested me without any evidence and invoked the NSA on me. I was illegally kept away from the people of my constituency, Rana said.
Som said,The government implicated me on false charges in the matter,I have given the privilege notice against this, Som said.
Meanwhile,a delegation of BJP MLAs led by partys legislature leader Hukum Singh and including Rana and Som met Governor B L Joshi and gave a memorandum over the issue of cane farmers.
During the meeting with the Governor,the delegation said that over 50,000 farmers were harassed in the riots while cases were registered against around 15,000 of them.
The delegation demanded the Governor to direct the state to pay dues of the farmers of previous crushing season and to hike the price of sugarcane to Rs 325 per quintol for current season.
BJP questions basis of pension to victims
Lucknow: BJP Wednesday questioned the basis of UP governments move to provide pension to those injured in Muzaffarnagar riots and demanded such help be extended to all injured in recent communal clashes in the state. BJP has no objection if the government extends financial support to those suffered injuries in riots,but the basis on which it should be given must be clear…, BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said. pti
