A restaurant worker in Agra was shot dead, and another person was injured while they were shutting down the eatery in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Gulfam, 31. The restaurant, Shahid Ali Chicken Biryani, is located at Shilpgram Road in the Tajganj area.
After the incident, a video was posted on social media in which two men, claiming to be members of the ‘Kshatriya Gau Raksha Dal’, confessed to the killing in retaliation for the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The Agra police, however, stated that the murder could be the result of personal enmity or a dispute over food. “The video posted on social media appears to have been made for publicity. There is no group called ‘Kshatriya Gau Raksha Dal’ in Agra,” a police officer said.
“Gulfam was shot by unknown assailants. He was taken to SN Medical College, where doctors declared him dead. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and further investigations are underway,” Sayed Areeb Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said.
According to another worker at the restaurant, Saiyad Ali, who was injured in the firing, “Three men arrived on a scooter, and two of them walked towards our shop and opened fire at Gulfam. In the melee, I also sustained some gunshot injuries.
“The trio then fled on their scooter… I can identify them if they are brought in front of me.”
Shahid Ali, the owner of the restaurant, said Gulfam was his relative. “We don’t know who killed him. He has a wife and three small children. We want justice,” he added.
