The minor girl who was found dead inside the house of a provincial civil services (PCS) officer on Sunday had died from hanging and there was no evidence of rape, according to the postmortem report.

Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police J Ravinder Goud said the postmortem report did not confirm rape and it showed that the death was caused by hanging. He said no other injury marks were reported in the report.

Goud said the case will be altered to a suicide case from the case of rape and murder. He said the police will now probe what was the provocation for suicide.

On Sunday, police had lodged an FIR for rape and murder against PCS officer Atul Kumar Srivastava — who is posted as deputy commissioner in the Commercial Tax Department — his father-in-law O N Verma and servant Virendra on the complaint of the girl’s mother.

The girl was found dead on the first floor room of Srivastava’s house on Sunday afternoon. Srivastava, his bed-ridden father-in-law,his wife, two minor daughters and the servant were at home when the girl was found dead.

The mother of the girl on Monday alleged that the police had got the postmortem report changed. She said she had seen injury marks caused by nails on the girl’s face and her clothes were also not proper at that time.

She alleged that the police had hurriedly buried her daughter’s body without the consent of the family in order to save the accused persons.

The SSP denied the allegations saying the whole process of postmortem has been videographed and there is no foul play in it.

Women’s activist Madhu Garg said she had written to Lucknow Range DIG Navniet Sekera for again conducting an inquiry into the case. She said she will also ask for conducting a second postmortem of the girl as the first report appears to have been “managed”.

N P Singh,Circle Officer (Aliganj),said the body was buried by the family members of the girl and not by the police. He said police will investigate the case to find out the exact details of the case, but the post mortem report indicates that the girl committed suicide.
