TWO groups belonging to different communities clashed and indulged in arson following altercation between two people over Rs 100 at Gher Inayat Khan locality in Rampur district Friday. The clashes left three persons injured, police said. Both the groups lodged FIRs at the Ganj police station following which one Sunder Lal, an RSS worker, has been arrested , they said.
It all began when Anwaar Salmani, who runs a barber’s shop, had an altercation with his neighbour Jeet Singh when he asked the latter to return Rs 100 that he had borrowed few days ago, said Ganj police station’s SHO whose name is also Jeet Singh.

The altercation soon turned violent as supporters from both the sides gathered there and indulged in brick batting and also opened fire. Jeet’s supporters allegedly torched five motorcycles parked outside Anwaar’s house. The situation was brought under control after the District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh reached the spot with a team headed by SP Sanjeev Tyagi.
Both the sides lodged FIRs at the Ganj police station. While one side alleged that people from the other community barged into their house and misbehaved with the members, the other side alleged that their household articles were set ablaze, police said, adding they have taken possession of the bikes which were damaged by rioters. They also arrested RSS worker Sunder Lal.
The DM claimed that the situation was tense but under control and police force has been deployed in Ganj area and other sensitive parts of the city. “We would not allow the situation to deteriorate,” he said.
