Quarrel in train leaves 1 dead

A 25-year-old man travelling in Bihar-bound Satyagrah Express was shot by a fellow passenger following a quarrel over seat sharing.

A 25-year-old man travelling in Bihar-bound Satyagrah Express was shot by a fellow passenger following a quarrel over seat sharing in Sitapur district Friday,the police said.

A resident of Bihar’s Chhapra district,Ajay Kumar Mahto sustained bullet injury on his head and died on the spot.

After committing the crime,the assailant deboarded the train at Sitapur station and escaped,the police said,saying they believe the accused is a resident of the place he got down at.

A murder case has been registered against the accused at the district’s government railway police station.

Superintendent of Police,Railways,Manoj Kumar said the incident took place in the general compartment of the train. Mahto was travelling along with his cousin Punna Kumar. The two were coming from Delhi and were on way to their native place in Bihar.

Station Officer,GRP Sitapur,P K Singh said the accused boarded the train at Shahjahanpur. An argument between the accused and the brother duo over sharing of the seat led to the shooting. According to other passengers,Ajay and Punna had assaulted the accused following the altercation.

Giving details,the SO said around 3.10 am,when the train arrived at the Sitapur station,“the accused got down and waited near the compartment.”

“As the train started leaving the station,he rushed to the window of the compartment and fired at Mahto and ran away,” Singh said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead,confirmed Singh.

The police suspect that the accused had called up his associates in Sitapur and collected the pistol there.
