The Special Task Force (STF) arrested Kiran Pujari,an accused in Fridays double murder in Pune.
The bodies of Vidya Ghorpade,an executive with Talawade-based Fujitsu Consultancy,and her son Om (5) bearing multiple stab wounds were found in their flat in Empire state.
Pujari,who had fled to Uttar Pradesh after killing them,was arrested from Kapoorthala crossing on Sunday afternoon. At the time,he was on his way to meet a friend. The police recovered a mobile phone,a driving license and a credit card from him.
On Saturday morning,the Crime Branch of Pune police sent information to the STF that Pujari had gone to meet his friend in Kanpur. The STF launched a manhunt and began collecting information about Pujaris friend.
On Sunday afternoon,we were tipped-off that Pujari is coming at the Kapoorthala crossing. We laid a trap and arrested him, said Senior Superintendent of Police,STF,Amitabh Yash.
During questioning,Pujari confessed to the crime,claimed STF.
According to the police officers,Pujari,a college mess contractor,said he had met Vidya through his cousin five years ago and developed close relationship with her.
But since last year,Vidya started ignoring him and he had gone into depression.
On Friday,Pujari had gone to the residence of Vidya to resolve issues between them.
Soon,both entered into a heated argument and getting a knife from the kitchen,Pujari stabbed Vidya and her son numerous times, said an STF officer. Before fleeing in Vidyas car,a Santro,he opened the knob of the gas cylinder in the kitchen. He threw away the knife and his blood-stained T-shirt at the Mumbai Express Highway. Later,going to the Mumbai International Airport,he took a bath and left the car at the parking lot of the domestic airport.
Since he wanted to leave Mumbai early,he took the Pushpak Express and came to Lucknow. He wanted to meet his friend who was in Kanpur, said another police officer.
