Priyanka holds janata darbar in Rae Bareli,sets agenda for Cong workers

Sets next two months’ agenda for party,‘hold padyatras to highlight food security scheme’.

In yet another first,Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held “janata darbar” in Rae Bareli Tuesday to listen to the problems of locals from Rae Bareli and Amethi —- the Lok Sabha constituencies represented respectively by her mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and brother and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

The janata darbar at Bhuvemau guest house ground began around 10 am and Priyanka met more than 300 people in groups. The locals came with different requests —- from seeking help for treatment of their ailing family members,to seeking better road connectivity and drinking water.

“A tent was erected at Bhuvemau guest house ground. She met locals in groups,personally took their applications and assured them of all possible help,” said a Congress functionary in Rae Bareli. He said,“We were asked to circulate the message (about the janata darbar) at the last moment but still about 300 people arrived,” he added.

Priyanka,who later in the day met the newly appointed presidents of gram panchayat,Nyaya Panchayat and the block leaders,also set the next two months’ agenda for the workers in the constituency —- undertake “padyatras (footmarch) to spread message about UPA’s Food Security Scheme.

A party leader said that she held meetings with about 1000 functionaries in five separate groups,which were formed as per the Assembly segments.

“She asked us to target state government for non implementation of the food security scheme and also on poor implementation of other centrally funded schemes,” a party functionary said.

A block president of the party said she also took lunch with the party workers at the guest house. She left for Delhi in the evening.
