First time after losing power in the state about six months ago,the BSP is all set to show its political strength at its Sankalp Rashtriya Maharally to be held on the sixth death anniversary of party founder Kanshiram on October 9 in Lucknow.

Former Chief Minister and BSP national president Mayawati, who held a meeting with party coordinators on Saturday, has asked them to hold meeting at district level to ensure a good gathering of party supporters at the proposed October 9 rally. This would be the first occasion when the former chief minister would address her party rally following BSP’s ouster from power in the 2012 Assembly polls.

Sources in the BSP confirmed that party workers would be brought from all the Assembly seats of the state. Those who lost the Assembly elections as BSP nominees would be also contacted by the zonal coordinators for the success of the rally,a source said. “If the BSP leader who was a party nominee in the Assembly elections is not politically active,he would be immediately replaced as party’s face in the Assembly seat concerned as per the decision of party president Mayawati,” a BSP MLA said.

BSP is holding its rally at a time when Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav continues to face criticism for his alleged failure on the law and order front. “Apart from other national issues,BSP supremo Mayawati wants to target Akhilesh government particularly on the bad law and order situation, and poor power supply,” a source in BSP said, adding,“national issues would be mainly taken up at the party’s national executive meeting scheduled for October 10”.

The rally is also important for BSP’s new state president Ram Achal Rajbhar, who has toured various parts of the state in the last two months. Since he has been assigned by the party leadership to hold meetings with all the zonal coordinators deployed in 18 divisions of the state,he is considered to be the most powerful state president within the BSP’s UP organisation in the last decade. “In the last two months,Rajbhar directly approached the party’s hardcore cadres and emerged as a link between part cadres and former CM Mayawati,” another source pointed out. Mayawati appointed Rajbhar as BSP’s UP president on July 12.

Despite attempts,BSP national general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui could not be contacted.
