A herdsman who is suspected to be the mastermind behind the killings of two tigers in Pilibhit district last week has been arrested by the forest officials.
Akhlaq,along with his four colleagues,all residents of Kabirganj area,have been booked for killing the tigers.
Akhlaq was taken into custody on Wednesday and sent to jail by a court on Thursday. Forest officials say the group of five men who graze their cattle in the forest had planned the killing of tigers after their animals were killed by the big cats.
Divisional Forest Officer V K Singh said they will soon seek remand of Akhlaq for interrogation. He declined to disclose the names of the accomplices who are absconding. He said they are suspected to be hiding in the jungles of North Kheri division.
The bodies of two tigers were found on May 24. The body of another tiger was found within 24 hours about 300 metres away.
