Out on bail, rape accused murders victim, held after encounter: Police

A 28-year-old man, who was arrested over a month ago for allegedly raping his sister-in-law, hacked the woman to death with an axe in Unnao on Monday, police said on Tuesday. The accused had been recently released on bail, police said.

The accused was arrested on Tuesday after an encounter and he suffered a bullet injury on the right leg. He was taken to a hospital where doctors said he was stable. An axe, allegedly used in the crime, was recovered from his possession. “We arrested him a few hours after the murder,” said Unnao SP, Deepak Bhuker.
