Even as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) failed to strike gold at Daundiya Kedha,disciples of Shobhan Sarkar,the sadhu who had claimed the presence of treasure in the ruins of Raja Rao Ram Bux Singh’s fort,decided to excavate the treasure themselves. Armed with JCB machines,the disciples,under the leadership of Shri Om,a disciple of Sarkar,reached the fort to dig the treasure Thursday.
The administration,however,refused to allow the team to carry out any excavation with Sri Om and his disciples forced to return from the site.
“They had reached the fort today but were not given permission to dig at the site,” said Vijay Shankar Dubey,SDM,Bighapur,Unnao. The SDM said security forces are deputed at the site in order to thwart any such attempt.
The disciples of Sarkar maintain that now that the ASI has retreated,Sarkar should be allowed to dig the gold. “What is wrong if Sarkar ji is saying that we will dig up gold treasure and give it to the nation? We are not going to keep it ourselves. We will give it for the country,” said Bablu Gupta,one of Sarkar’s disciples.
“We will again try and excavate gold tomorrow and if the administration is denying us permission,let them give so in writing,” said Gupta.
