Legislators can now avail free air travel facility in their choice of airlines. Currently, however, the coupons provided to them enable travel by Indian Airlines or Jet flights only.
Replying to a question in the Assembly,Parliamentary Affairs minister Azam Khan announced that members can now fly in their choice of airline.
The issue was raised by Congress MLA Pramod Tiwari through a question of propriety. Tiwari told the House that the state government pays for the railway coupons provided to MLAs. His plea was that there is no discount for MLAs who are under the category of senior citizens. Besides, there is no surety for getting confirmed railway tickets for the legislatures either.
Terming the issue raised by Tiwari as genuine,Azam Khan said if an MLA postponed his journey in absence of a confirmed railway ticket,he should be issued fresh coupons in lieu of the coupons which he/she had used to get ticket in the waiting list.
Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said he has already written to the authorities concerned in the railway board. He would soon hold a meeting with them in this regard.
