Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said zero tolerance against crime is not just a letter but also a spirit, and its strict implementation has transformed a crime-ridden state into a model state in terms of law and order.
Addressing the 36th Foundation Day ceremony of the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), Adityanath said, “Zero tolerance is not just a word, but also a spirit, implemented with strictness on the ground. A robust security environment, where hooliganism, extortion, mafia rule, and arbitrariness are no longer prevalent, has been created. As a result, Uttar Pradesh has successfully established itself as a model state in the country in terms of law and order.”
The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation of 114 infrastructure development projects worth Rs 408 crore across various sectors of GIDA. He also handed over plot allocation certificates to five investors out of 115 plots allotted for proposed investments of Rs 6,139 crore. He said that Gita Press — which has given global recognition to India’s Sanatan heritage — has been given an allotment letter for 10 acres of land in GIDA.
During the ceremony, Adityanath inaugurated the three-day UP State Trade Show held at GIDA.
Speaking about the state’s industrial development, Adityanath said, “Eastern UP remained neglected after Independence. Industries were either absent or shutting down. Mafia activities destroyed investment prospects. But today, major entrepreneurs from across the country and the world are investing in Gorakhpur and eastern UP.”
Hitting out at the previous governments, Adityanath said that their (Opposition) governance model was based on appeasement and divisive politics, fostering enmity and curfew-like situations. In contrast, he said that the present government has taken strict action against land grabbers and mafia. “Those who once occupied land by force have been dealt with firmly. Today, factories are being built on lands once encroached upon by mafias,” he said.
“In the last eight years, around 500 industrial units have been set up in GIDA. Investments of over Rs 11,618 crore have generated direct jobs for nearly 40,000 youth. Companies like Kayam Industry, Ankur Udyog, India Auto Wheels, SD International, CP Milk and Foods, Tatva Plastic, Kapila Krishi Udyog, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, and Campa are investing in the state. Reliance Group is also set to establish a Campa unit,” the chief minister added.
After the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, the state received investment proposals worth Rs 45 lakh crore, out of which investment of Rs 15 lakh crore generated direct employment opportunities for 1.5 crore youth. In GIDA alone, around 40,000 youth have secured jobs, Adityanath said, adding that investment proposals worth Rs 5 lakh crore will be implemented this December.
Hailing the state for its fastest-growing economy, Adityanath said, “UP has the country’s largest railway network, the first rapid train, and the first inland waterway. The state also has the highest number of metro cities and airports in the country. There are 16 functional airports, including four international airports. The fifth and largest airport, Jewar International Airport, is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi within a month.”
He also spoke about the “Dharma Dhwaja” installation by PM Modi in Ayodhya on November 25. “The entire nation celebrated as the saffron flag was raised. In Ayodhya, from the Bhoomi Pujan in August 2020 to the Pran Pratishtha in January 2024, and now the Dharma Dhwaja installation, PM Modi has honoured India’s cultural heritage,” he said.
