NBWs against 3 babus for contempt

HC seeks action against IAS officers Awasthi,Jowel and Kumar.

The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday ordered issuing of non-bailable warrant against at least three IAS officers on charges of contempt of court in different cases.

The IAS officers against whom the warrant is to be issued include Avanish Kumar Awasthi,Pinki Jowel and Alok Kumar. The order for issuing the warrant was given by Justice Sudhir Agarwal,while hearing different contempt petitions against these officials.

On being contacted,the chief standing counsel of Lucknow,I P Singh,confirmed that non-bailable warrants were ordered against all three IAS officers.

Hearing the cases against the officers,the court observed that in spite of court’s notice to the officials regarding contempt proceedings against them,they neither filed affidavits nor appeared before the court. Terming it as a very serious matter showing complacency and audacity of these officials,the court said that the matter requires stern action.

Avanish Kumar Awasthi,who is on central deputation at present,has been ordered to be produced before the court on May 30. Two orders were issued against him pertaining a case of continuing appointment of ad hoc/ part time teacher till regular selectee join on the post. Awasthi was Principal Secretary,Higher Education at that time.

Pinki Jowel,at present posted as Additional Commissioner,Jhansi,is to be produced before the court on May 31. The order was issued against her pertaining a case of appointment of one Siksha Mitra in 2011. Jowel was Chairman,District Basic Education Selection at the time.

Alok Kumar who is Inspector General,Stamp and Registration,has been ordered to be produced before the court on May 30. The high court had,in 2011,ordered the inspector general to decide a matter pertaining to deficiency of stamp duty within a period of three months of date of production of certified copy of the order. The warrant has been ordered against Kumar for contempt of court in the case.
