Addressing an event in Gorakhpur Thursday morning, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said a nation’s identity is rooted in its culture, traditions, and the legacy of its great personalities.
“These elements are deeply interlinked. When culture is weakened, unity and national identity also begin to erode. Culture is shaped by national values and strengthened by historic, revolutionary moments. These values are embraced by people across India through various festivals, which foster unity by dissolving differences and upholding the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” the CM said.
Adityanath was speaking at the Founder’s Week Celebration of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad. Lt Gen Yogendra Dimri (Retd), Vice Chairman, Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, was the chief guest on the occasion.
The UP CM further said, “Whenever the country faces a crisis or a major challenge, the bravery and sacrifices of great heroes ignite new strength within us. The valour of warriors like Maharana Pratap, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh, and Rani Lakshmibai, who laid down their lives defending the nation, continues to inspire every Indian.”
On this occasion, Lieutenant General Dimri (Retd) said that patriotism is not only about showing courage on the borders, but also about performing one’s duty with honesty, protecting the environment, serving society, and being a good citizen.
He appreciated the establishment of Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad during British rule and the freedom struggle, based on Indian cultural and educational values, and acknowledged its continuous contribution to nation-building.
He said that in a time when British rule and English influence dominated India, establishing institutions like Banaras Hindu University in 1916 and Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad in Gorakhpur in 1932 was an act of true service to Indian identity and the nation. He expressed gratitude towards the founders – Mahant Digvijay Nath and Rashtra Sant Mahant Avedyanath – and Chief Minister Adityanath.
