The sub-junior girls national coaching camp in wrestling will be organised at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sub-Centre,Lucknow from June 9 to July 4.
Talking to The Indian Express,Vinod Tomar,assistant secretary Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) informed,The camp is in preparation for the Asian Cadet Wrestling Championships to be held at Kyrgyzstan from July 5 to 8. The strength of the camp is 40 wrestlers and four coaches. The boys camp will be held at Pune.
Wrestling camps for junior and sub-junior wrestlers are being organised at SAI,Lucknow for the past three years or so. Recently,a girls wrestling camp was organised for Junior Asian Wrestling Championships held at Kazakhstan from May 31 to June 3 and the results were encouraging. The girls came back winning two golds,one silver and five bronze medals.
The SAI officials at Lucknow are very cooperative. When contacted,Regional Director SAI Rachana Govil said she had received a letter regarding the upcoming camp and sounded confident about the facilities available for the wrestlers.
The WFI will be honouring the medal winners of the recently concluded Junior Asian Wrestling Championships organised at Kazakhstan,recently. Secretary general WFI Raj Singh informed that the felicitation function will take place in Delhi on June 11.
The gold medal winners will be given Rs 21,000 each,the silver medallists will become richer by Rs 16,000 each and the bronze medal winners will be given Rs 11,000 each, he said.
