A woman,Kanak Bagchi, has accused Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, former minister in the BSP government,of getting her kidnapped from a hospital in Allahabad on Monday and then shifting her to Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
An FIR has been registered at Pratap Nagar police station in Jodhpur district,on the basis of Kanaks complaint. The Jodhpur police have, however, initiated the move to transfer the case to Allahabad,as the alleged crime (kidnapping) took place here.
Nandi could not be contacted for his version despite repeated attempts.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West),Jodhpur,Ajay Kumar Lamba, told The Indian Express over phone that the FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Kanak,a resident of Naini.
The allegation in her complaint was that some persons kidnapped her from Allahabad and then she was brought to Jodhpur, where she managed to escape from the kidnappers somehow, said Lamba. Since the crime was initiated in Allahabad, the FIR will be transferred there, he added.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Pratap Nagar,Jodhpur),Kunwar Rashtradeep, said: Kanak has told us that she did not know how she reached Jodhpur and knew little about the place. She was under the influence of drug-laced injections when the police came to know about the incident.
Rashtradeep added that the complainant has expressed apprehension that she was kidnapped at the instance of Nandi due to some political rivalry. But there is no evidence as such to link the former minister with the kidnapping, he said.
Kanak, whose husband is said to have dabbled in student politics and was linked to Janata Dals farmers unit, had alleged that she was kidnapped from Bailey Hospital in Cantonment area on Monday by unidentified persons.
