The coming together of Samajwadi Party (SP) and former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kalyan Singh has stirred a hornets nest as Muslim leaders have termed the move as a betrayal of the minorities by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
According to Muslim leaders,Yadav had ditched the community by joining hands with the man who demolished the Babri Masjid and was convicted by the Supreme Court for filing a false affidavit about ensuring safety of the mosque on December 6,1992.
Its an ill advised move on part of Mulayam Singh to join hands with Kalyan Singh. Let us see what explanation the SP chief will offer to the Muslims during the Lok Sabha elections, said Jafaryaab Jilani, legal advisor to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and also convener of the Babri Masjid Action Committee. He added that joining hands with Kalyan Singh will erode Yadavs credibility among Muslims and the SP will loose heavily in the next Lok Sabha polls.
The Muslims did not forgive the then prime minister P V Narsihma Rao for the demolition of Babri Masjid. So,how can they forgive Kalyan Singh for the same crime? Jilani said. Dr Qazi Ahsan Ali,general secretary of the Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association, echoed the same. Its a marriage of convenience and will certainly have a negative impact on the electoral prospects of the SP, he said.
Mulayams credibility has been dented. The Muslims will never forget that after the demolition of the mosque,Singh had gloated that a hated symbol of Islamic slavery on mother India has been erased, said prominent Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwaad.
State president of the Jamat-e-Islami,Mohammed Ahmed, said Yadavs claim that with the support of Kalyan Singh a real political alternative has emerged in UP,should be rejected with the contempt it deserves. Mulayam Singh is consistently ignoring the interests of Muslims. He failed to utter a word on the massacre of the innocent people in Gaza strip and paid only lip service to the Batala house encounter, said a prominent Sunni cleric of Lucknow,Maulana Fazlur Rehman Nadvi.
Prominent leader of the Barelvi sect of Sunni Muslims,Maulana Taquir Raza Khan, said: By admitting his old ties with Kalyan Singh, its clear that Yadav was fooling the Muslims all these years. His fight against communal forces was only to meet his narrow political ends.
The coming together of Yadav and Singh has confirmed that both the demolisher and the savior of Babri Masjid were not honest to their cause and ditched their voters,he added.
Mulayam Singh has committed a political blunder. Muslims can no longer rely on a leader who can take a U-turn on ideological issues, said Taslim Rehmani, chairman of Muslim Political council,a Delhi-based organisation.
VHP is sure Kalyan will continue with Hindutva
Ayodhya-Faizabad: Though the hero of the Ayodhya movement,Kalyan Singh, joining hands with Mulayam Singh Yadav has left the members of the Muslim community restless, the VHP is sure the former CMs would continue to be associated with the Hindutva and Ram temple movement.
VHP spokesperson Sharad Sharma said,Whichever party he may join,we are not concerned. We are only concerned with our temple movement and we are sure Kalyan still supports the cause of Ram temple and Hindutva.
Balbhadra Maharaj,a senior VHP functionary, claimed before leaving the BJP,Kalyan had discussed his decision with senior VHP leaders and assured them he would continue supporting the cause of Hindutva and Ram temple movement.
