The body of a nine-year-old girl was found in Lucknow Saturday morning, hours after a missing report was filed at the local police station. A post-mortem report confirmed that she was suffocated to death, while a vaginal swab has been sent for further tests to ascertain if she was sexually assaulted. The girl’s family members held a protest alleging police inaction.
“At around 10 am Sunday, we were informed by the girl’s parents that she has been missing since around 9 pm Saturday. She was last seen playing outside her house. Her parents searched for her near the house and then got an FIR for kidnapping registered against unidentified person Sunday morning. At around 11.45 am, some children playing near a nearby river bank said there was a body floating near the shore. It was found to be that of the missing girl. The body was found around 500 mts away from her house,” said SP (West) Vikas Chandra Tripathi.
The station house officer of the local police station said, “The reason behind the murder is still unknown. There was no visible injury on the private parts. However, we are not yet ruling out the possibility of sexual assault. The body is being cremated and by night we will add the IPC section for murder in the FIR registered. If further tests confirm sexual assault, we will add the relevant IPC sections and invoke the POCSO Act.”
The SHO added that the accused is yet to the identified.
