A class XII student was allegedly kidnapped and then gangraped by her Facebook friend and three of his associates on Friday in Nauchandi police station area of Meerut district. The victim,a minor, was abducted and taken away in a car while she was returning home in a rickshaw after tuition. Nearly three hours after she was abducted, the victim was dumped at a lonely place.
The 16-year-old girl managed to reach home and told the incident to her mother. The next day the perpetrators reached the victims house and threatened to kill her younger brother if they reported the incident to the police. However,on Sunday the victims mother mustered courage and went to the Medical College Police Station. The victims mother said she was made to wait for an hour as the police did not lodge the FIR. The purported reason given was that the geographical boundaries of police stations where the incident happened could not be decided. The police sent her to Nauchandi police station where the FIR was finally lodged in the presence of the Circle Officer.
This despite a clear directive by the state Chief Secretary Javed Usmani that in rape cases the victims statement should be recorded in the presence of a lady police officer and that an FIR can be lodged in any police station.
No arrests have been made so far though the girl in her statement has identified two persons as Saumit Gurjar and Amit Bhadana. Both are friends on the Facebook, said Vikas Chand Tripathi, the Circle Officer who recorded the victims statement.
According to Meerut SSP Deepak Kumar the victim said Saumit met her on Shastri Nagar Road and offered her a lift in his car when she was returning home. Saumits friend Amit of Juranpur and two unidentified youths were in the car.
The victim has said she was taken to a house at Lakshmibagh colony where she was given some drink laced with sedatives. Later,Saumit and his friends allegedly raped her,Kumar said. She told the police that Amit and Saumit abandoned her near a shopping mall in the locality.
Nauchandi police station officer Pradeep Kumar Tripathi said he has checked the Facebook accounts of the girl and Saumit. The call details of their mobile phones confirm frequent calls between them, said Tripathi. The police are waiting for the medical report of the victim.
Local MLA and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shahid Manzoor has said he will take up the issue with SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
