The Union Ministry of Rural Development has decided to use social networking site Facebook as an interactive platform to communicate and exchange ideas about MGNREGA and share good practices adopted in states.
A letter has been sent by the MGNREGA cell of the ministry to all states with detailed information about how to open separate state-level Facebook pages and connect these to the ministrys IndiaMGNREGA page on Facebook (FB).
Rajesh Bhushan, joint secretary of MGNREGA division in the Union Rural Development Ministry has informed that the ministry has formed its national-level page and is using it to disseminate updates on different activities and interact with the stakeholders.
Thus,in order to streamline and strengthen the FB-based interactions, the states are requested to create similar pages and update these with details and photographs of different field-level activities under the scheme.
Copy of IndiaMGNREGA homepage has been attached with the letter so that the states selected the right ID on their friend list. The states are also requested to inform about the formation of their ID to the ministry so that only genuine IDs are linked to the national page.
Much to the surprise of everyone, even people at gram panchayat and block level are using the social networking sites through their mobile phones. Thus, the idea is to not only spread the word about new initiatives under the scheme among officers but also to share the good practices adopted at the grassroots level. Moreover, even within the state,it can be used as a platform to spread different messages about the scheme, said a senior officer.
