Merchant navy officer shot dead in Firozabad over election dispute

UNIDENTIFIED MISCREANTS shot dead an officer of the merchant navy following a dispute over the gram pradhan election in Firozabad Sunday morning, police said.

Alok Kumar, 28, was standing near Maa Bhagwati Vidya Mandir School in Hussainpur village when shooters arrived on a motorcycle and shot at him following a heated argument. Station Officer, Kheragarh police station, R K Dubey said Alok was shot in the head and was rushed to a hospital by locals.

He succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said, adding they have detained one Lalliya who is an associate of Pradeep Kumar, son of Hussainpur village pradhan Vijay Pal. Police have booked all three of them on charge of murder.

The navy officer, who had come home a few days ago, was the nephew of Mukund, who lost the gram pradhan election to Pal.

Firozabad SP Ashok Kumar said both Mukund and Pal were reportedly engaged in an old dispute over achieving supremacy in the village.
