Mayawati wants BSP viable option against Congress,BJP

Mayawati said the law and order situation in the state is disturbed and the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar show that the BJP and SP are working together.

Former chief minister Mayawati Sunday asked senior BSP leaders to present the BSP as a viable option against the Congress,BJP and Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha polls.

She was reviewing the election preparation in a meeting of party coordinators at BSP headquarters here.

According to party sources,Mayawati said while the Congress and SP,the ruling parties at Centre and in UP respectively, have “failed badly” and “lost people’s trust”,the BJP is unacceptable to all sections of the society because of its “communal approach”.

Claiming that the current political scenario is conducive to BSP’s good performance in the elections,Mayawati said the law and order situation in the state is disturbed and the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar show that the BJP and SP are working together.

She reportedly said it was because of the BJP and SP’s tacit understanding that the culprits of riots are not being delivered strong punishment.

A party coordinator present at the meeting said they have been asked to mobilise the supporters at grassroot level by holding meetings with party functionaries and the activists of BAMCEF and Bahujan Volunteer Force. They have also been asked to enroll new members and heighten the activities of BSP Bhaichara Committees.

Mayawati also attacked SP for holding “social justice rallies” saying the party was trying to fool OBCs by promising 17 backward castes the status of Scheduled Castes,as it can be done only by the Centre.

She also collected feedback about the party’s candidates for Lok Sabha polls. Sources said former MLA Tribhuan Dutt, whose name was proposed as prospective candidate from Bahraich seat, has been replaced by sitting MLA from Bansgaon (Gorakhpur) Vijay Kumar.
