Terming the state government’s decision to change the names of the eight districts, given by her government,as “extremely painful”,former Chief Minister Mayawati said it was an insult to the great people who were born in Dalit and OBC communities.

She reminded people that these districts were created and named after saints and gurus who were born in both the communities.

In a press release issued by the BSP’s state office, party chief Mayawati said though the report about government’s plan to change the names of the districts appeared in the media, she had never believed that the SP government would go to the extent of insulting the saints and gurus who were honoured by naming the districts after them.

She said the SP government has taken decision with “malice”. “My government never changed the name of any districts but created new districts and gave them inspirational names,” she said.

Leader of the Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya termed the decision as anti-people.
