Stung by reports of RTI revelation that Mayawati spent Rs 86 crore from the state exchequer on renovation of her bungalow in Lucknow, the BSP on Thursday charged the SP government of resorting to misinformation campaign against the BSP supremo to divert the attention of public from their failure to honour promises and the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

“The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed since the SP’s return to power. The state is reeling under a kind of jungle law. In addition, they are not able to implement the promises made in their manifesto because their promises were hollow and false,” BSP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Satish Mishra said while addressing a press conference with a battery of party MPs — Dara Singh Chauhan,Baliram,Brajesh Pathak and Salim Ansari.

Alleging that the deteriorating law and order situation is a challenge to Mayawati’s security as it was during the SP regime when “she faced threat on her life in 1995” ,he said that the threat has gone up with the SP “promising to release dreaded terrorists and criminals put behind the bars during her regime”. Emphaising the need to enhance the security cover for Mayawati,Mishra said that the BSP has written to the Centre demanding SPG cover for her.

Mishra clarified the party’s position regarding Mayawati’s bungalows saying that the government expenditure on the said bungalow was incurred with the express permission from the state Cabinet after she offered to provide its major portion as Manyawar Kanshiramji Yadgar Sthal. “All necessary government approvals were taken before designating it as Kanshiram memorial. But the current SP regime has used some state officials to spread a campaign against the BSP and Mayawati despite the fact that the government records clearly register large part of that as a memorial for Kanshiram while only a minor part is used as residence for Mayawati,” Misra said.

Mishra added that among the four bungalows allotted to the BSP and its leader in Delhi, only two are Mayawati’s residences.
