Manth bypolls: Sanjay Lathar is SP candidate

The Samajwadi Party has announced Sanjay Lathar as its candidate for the Assembly by-election in Manth seat in Mathura district next month.

The Samajwadi Party has announced Sanjay Lathar as its candidate for the Assembly by-election in Manth seat in Mathura district next month.

The vacancy was caused by the resignation of RLD’s Jayant Choudhary who won in the last Assembly election but preferred to retain his Mathura Lok Sabha seat. Lathar,who comes from Haryana,is national president of Yuvjan Sabha,the youth wing of Samajwadi Party. In the Assembly elections,the SP candidate had earned only 1,058 votes and was placed eighth.

Akhilesh resigns from Lok Sabha

LUCKNOW: Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday resigned from the membership of the Lok Sabha where he represented the Kannauj. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections,Akhilesh had won simultaneously from Kannauj and Ferozabad. He later resigned from Ferozabad and fielded his wife Dimple,who lost to Raj Babbar (Congress). After the emphatic win of Samajwadi Party in the Assembly elections,Akhilesh took oath as Chief Minister on March 15 and later got elected to the Legislative Council to fulfill the constitutional requirement of becoming a member of either house of the state legislature within six months.
