Man under ‘illegal’ detention found dead,family cries foul

The body of a youth,30, was found on railway tracks in Agra Saturday morning. Hussain was under police custody for the past three days for eloping with a 20-year-old girl of another community,sources said.

police,however, claimed Hussain escaped from the outpost Friday night and died after being hit by an oncoming train. family members of the deceased have alleged foul play,saying police handed Hussain over to the girl’s family who murdered him and later threw his body on the railway tracks.

An FIR has been lodged against five people,including sitting BSP MLA from Kheragarh Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha. Others named in the FIR are the girl’s father Roshan and her relatives.

Agra Police have admitted that Hussain was illegally detained by the police. Five cops — Shahganj PS Inspector R P Singh,police outpost in-charge Sarvajeet Singh and three constables — have been suspended for negligence. The constables have been suspended for not informing seniors of Hussain’s escape from custody.

Agra Assistant SP Prabhakar Chaudhary said Hussain’s post-mortem report says he died of shock and hemorrhage resulting from the ante-mortem injuries.
