A 35-year-old man committed suicide after allegedly killing his wife and daughter at Zaid colony in Meerut on Monday morning, police said.
Police said that Ishtiaq hanged himself with a rope from the ventilator of the entrance door in his flat.
“We found his wife’s body which has turned blue. Ishtiaq might have given her a poisonous substance. We have also found the body of the daughter who was strangulated with a copper wire.
We have sent the bodies for the postmortem,” said Raghuraj Singh, in charge of Lisadi Gate police
Police said that they had recovered a suicide note which read,”I am going with my wife (Saira, 33) and daughter (Anam, 16).”
Before the incident, Ishtiaq had called his sister Shabana, with whom his elder son Aarif lives, and requested her to take care of his son as he was ending his life, police said.
Shabana immediately contacted her father, Ali Hasan, who lives close by and he rushed to Ishtiaq’s house and found the front door bolted from inside. He contacted police and they broke open the door.
“We have not closed the case because we have not ruled out the possibility of a murder by an outsider because Ishtiaq’s body was hardly one feet above the ground which seems to be a remote position for a person killing himself,” said Deputy SP(Kotwali) Dinesh Shukla.
