A MAN was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually harassing his 23-year-old niece, leading her to commit suicide on Wednesday at Badaun.
The man’s wife has also been arrested for allegedly aiding him. In a complaint lodged at the Kotwali police station in Badaun, the girl’s father has alleged that his younger brother used to harass his daughter. “The girl was found hanging at her house on Wednesday afternoon. The postmortem report has shown hanging as the cause of death. However, no suicide note was recovered from the spot,” Kotwali SHO Manoj Kumar said.
“The girl had studied up to Class X and stayed with her father and brother. While her family stayed on the first floor, her’s uncle’s family lived on the ground floor,” he added.
The two have been booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
“The girl’s father and uncle have a old dispute over the ownership of a jewellery shop. A few years ago, the girl’s father was booked in a rape case on the complaint of the aunt. The case is still pending,” said Kumar.
