THE UTTAR Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday said it has arrested the “mastermind” of the UP police constable recruitment exam paper leak. Officers identified the accused as Rajiv Nayan Mishra, who hails from Prayagraj and was residing in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Mishra, 32, was arrested from Greater Noida on Tuesday evening on the basis of a tip-off, officers said.
The UP police recruitment exam paper was leaked on February 17 and 18 after a break-in at the premises of a firm based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. A total of 48 lakh candidates appeared for the exam to fill 60,244 constable positions. Amid protests by aspirants alleging a paper leak, the Uttar Pradesh government cancelled the examination in February and ordered a retest.
“On the basis of investigation and interrogation of previously arrested accused, the main accused, Rajiv Nayan Mishra, was arrested,” said Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) UP STF.
Yash said: “The accused (Mishra) has previously been jailed in connection with the National Health Mission (NHM) staff recruitment exam scam in Gwalior and in the UP TET paper leak case. During initial interrogation, we found that the (UP Police recruitment) paper was leaked to 500 people in Gurgaon and 300 in Rewa. Information about a money trail has also been obtained.”
Police said that Mishra holds a B.Tech in civil engineering degree from a university in Bhopal. After the death of his parents, the accused stayed at his maternal uncle’s house and in 2010, took admission in a Bhopal college to pursue a B.Tech.
“It was here that he met two persons hailing from Bihar — Subhash Prakash and Atul Vats. They started running a gang. They used to take money from people, offering admission in several colleges in Bhopal. Mishra, along with one Tarunesh Azaria alias ‘Guruji’ (a resident of Bhopal who ran a paper leak gang), leaked the paper for recruitment of nursing staff under NHM of Bhopal, for which he and Azaria were jailed,” said Raj Kumar Mishra, ASP, STF Field Unit, Noida.
