A day after her father’s arrest, police on Monday arrested two elder brothers of Martina Gupta, who was found dead with bullet wounds at her home in Lucknow’s Eldeco colony on Saturday. Ajeet alias Deepak Gupta (30) and Yash alias Rakesh Babu Gupta (32) and Martina’s father Rakesh Gupta were on Monday produced before a local court which sent them to judicial custody, said ASP, North, Anurag Vats.
Though the family had initially claimed that Martina committed suicide, her mother had on Sunday filed a police complaint alleging that her husband Rakesh had shot at Martina with his licenced pistol after she refused to get married. “Deepak and Yash confessed their involvement in the murder. They said that after their father fired at Martina, they rushed to her room on hearing the gunshots. To make the murder seem like a suicide, both fired two bullets into Martina’s temple,” said Arun Kumar Rai, SHO of PGI police station.
Rai added that the brothers too said that their sister had refused a marriage proposal, which led to her murder. The police came to know about the murder on Saturday from doctors at the hospital where Martina was taken, who informed them that an unmarried woman had been brought dead by her family. They had also told police that the body had five gunshot injuries. Rakesh had initially claimed that Martina had shot herself.
