Chairpersonof Press Council of India Markandey Katju on Tuesday said the government would not be able to function after the appointment of a Lokpal. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow,he said that at least 50,000-55,000 Lokpals would have to be appointed in order to handle the complaints against 50 lakh-60 lakh government employees in the country. A large number of them will become blackmailers, he said.
Katju, who attended a dinner hosted by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday night, said he had advised the SP leader to appoint good and wise advisers. He also suggested Akhilesh to read Chanakya Neeti,Shanti Parva, and books of Machiavelli for better understanding of governance.
Onthe construction of parks and memorials by the previous Mayawati government,Katju said while these may amount to squandering of public funds, there was no violation of law. He said the judiciary cannot interfere in the work of a democratically elected government if the government does not violate any law.
