The Question Hour became a casualty and no business could be carried out in the Legislative Council for the second consecutive day on Wednesday when Chairman Ganesh Shanker Pandey had to adjourn the House following an uproar by opposition parties over the communal violence in western Uttar Pradesh.
As soon as the House assembled,the opposition members started raising anti-government slogans and BJP members trooped into the well to stage a demonstration.
BSP and Congress demanded a discussion on the alleged sting operation done by a TV news channel,claiming that cabinet minister Azam Khan had asked the police not to take action during riots.
They demanded that the government be dismissed while BJP members demanded that Azam Khan resign from the cabinet. Azam had denied the allegations in a press conference this morning claiming the sting operation to be fake.
Following the protest by opposition members,chairman adjourned the House for 10 minutes,which was later extended by five minutes when BJP members staged a dharna in the well.
When the House re-assembled,opposition members restarted the protest leading to adjournment of the House till 12 pm,which was further extended by 20 minutes.
Opposition members continued their protest when the House reassembled. Amid protests,Leader of the House Ahmed Hasan presented the supplementary budget for the current financial year.
The Chairman directed that all questions would be deemed answered and adjourned the House for the entire day.
Leader of Opposition Naseemuddin Siddiqui later said that SP government and BJP were hand in glove in instigating the riots. As SP and BJP both were involved in instigating riots,BJP MLAs named in the FIR were not being arrested, Siddiqui alleged.
