A youth was found murdered in a room of a hotel in Raqabganj police station area of Agra on Friday. The victim is yet to be identified,as the police did not find any luggage from the room and failed to verify the youths details from the voter ID card submitted at the hotel reception.
Agra SP (City) Ashok Prasad said the staff of Hotel Rangoli informed the police after they noticed foul smell emanating from one of the rooms which was locked from outside. The lock did not belong to the hotel.
The police reached the place and broke the lock of the room to find a highly decomposed body of a 25-year-old youth lying on the floor under the bed. The youths hands were tied with a nylon cord while strangulation mark was evident around his neck.
Prasad said the murder appeared to have taken place two days ago and it was difficult to match the youths face with the photograph in the voter ID submitted at the hotels reception.
The card lying at the reception carried name of Saurabh Bannerji of Salt Lake City,Kolkata.
The SP (City) also said no luggage or any other thing was found from the room and it was yet to be verified if it was Saurabhs body.
He said the hotel staff told the police that four youths had checked in at 4.40 pm on November 14. One of them had identified himself as Saurabh Bannerji and had given the voter card bearing the name. The foursome had told the hotel staff that they were students and had come to visit Agra.
The attendants said that they had last seen the four youths in the room in the afternoon of November 16. Since Thursday morning, the door of the hotel room was locked,Prasad added.
He said a police team is being sent to the address in Kolkata,as the phone mentioned in the hotels register was switched off.
