New state Congress chief Nirmal Khatri, who is also a member of Parliament from Faizabad, today released a report card on development in his constituency, taking a cue from the UPA government report card released by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in May.

Khatri claimed to be the only Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh to prepare such a report card, and hoped the other MPs would follow suit.

About 8,000 copies of Khatri’s report card have been published in the form of a booklet to be distributed widely in his constituency. The three-year report card not only mentions development works undertaken from the local area development fund in five Assembly constituencies that fall under Faizabad parliamentary constituency, but also development works undertaken under different central government-funded schemes. The five Assembly constituencies that come under Faizabad Lok Sabha seat are Rudauli,Dariyabad,Milkipur,Ayodhya and Bikapur.

“I took a lesson from the UPA government report card released by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Though I used to do it at a smaller scale in Faizabad for the past two years, this year I decided to release it in a compiled form of a pamphlet that can be widely distributed. I have also mentioned central government scheme projects because I pursued them regularly in the region,” Khatri, the new Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president, told The Indian Express.

“I have been told that there are very few Congress MPs across the country who do this and Sanjay Nirupam is one of them.”

Following the release of Khatri’s report card, there were talks within the party that other Congress members of Parliament would be asked to do the same. However,Khatri denied that there were any such instructions from the high command. “It is my own decision and other MPs can follow if they desire, but there are no instructions from the high command,” he said.

The copies of Khatri’s report card will be distributed to village pradhans, intellectuals, party workers and district units.

The list of works mentioned in his report card include installation of 68 solar lights in the five Assembly constituencies,1,225 hand pumps, electrification in villages, construction of roads, etc. from his MPLAD funds. The report also mentions pursuing the central government for stoppage of different trains in Faizabad, getting roads sanctioned in the year 2011-12 under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sarak Yojana and construction of schools under the Education for All programme.
