Campaigning in Bihar’s Siwan Assembly constituency for the NDA candidate, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Friday took aim at the ‘khandani mafia (mafia family)’ in a veiled reference to former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin and his son Osama Shahab.

Osama (30) is the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) candidate from Siwan’s Raghunathpur constituency. Gangster-turned-politician Shahabuddin, a four-time MP, had ruled politics in Siwan in North Bihar from 1996 to 2004, until his conviction and incarceration in 2008. He passed away in 2021 while in jail.

Addressing the rally, Adityanath said he had come the day before to Raghunathpur because “a mafia family there wants to seize control again”.

Raghunathpur mai iss liye aaya tha kyon ki ek khandani mafia wahan par phir se kabza karna chahta hai. Uttar Pradesh me to hamne bulldozer se raund raund kar in Mafiaon ki kachumar nikal kar ke Uttar Pradesh ki dharti se jahannum ke raste unke khol diye hain. (I had come to Raghunathpur because a mafia family wants to take control of that area again. In UP, we used bulldozers to crush such mafias, tearing them apart and opening the way to hell from UP’s soil),” he claimed.

The CM further said that in the “land of Maa Sita, no Maricha and Subahu [demons brothers in the Ramayana] will be allowed to raise their heads again”.

He added, “Those who forced the people of Siwan to live in fear and terror must never be allowed to return under any circumstances. This fight is not just for power, but for Bihar’s self-respect.”

Adityanath then took aim at the Congress and RJD.

“Foreign invaders destroyed Nalanda University… Even their current descendants, with the intention of ‘political Islam’, are… obstructing development… for their own advancement. The British forced the artisans, craftsmen and farmers to die of hunger. As heirs of the British, the Congress, following the same British tradition, put Bihar in crisis and blocked development. What remained was finished off by the RJD,” he said.

He also claimed, “Under the RJD’s rule in Bihar, crime and kidnapping had become an industry… anarchy, hooliganism, and nepotism dominated; relatives of one family were trampling all over Bihar…”

He then took aim at the Samajwadi Party. He claimed that just as professional criminals in UP are followers of the Samajwadi Party, similarly, in Bihar, criminals are followers of the RJD and the Congress. He said they must not be allowed to flourish.

He further alleged that the Congress and RJD had insulted Dr Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Karpoori Thakur. “They insulted Bihar’s son Sitaram Kesri. They worked to dust the dreams of JP,” he alleged.

He also said like the grand Ram temple built in Ayodhya, the BJP-led NDA is building a grand Sita temple in Sitamarhi. Additionally, the route through which “Lord Ram took Maa Sita to Ayodhya” is being developed as the Ram-Janki Marg, with a budget of Rs 6,155 crore, added the CM.
