The high-power committee comprising Secretary,Home,Rakesh and ADG (Power Corporation) Jawed Akhtar probing the death of terror suspect Khalid Mujahid reached Barabanki for the second time and recorded statements of doctors and officials on Saturday.
Khalid was declared brought dead at district hospital in Barabanki when he was brought there on his way from Faizabad to Lucknow jail on May 18. The state government first recommended a CBI probe into the incident. Later, the high-power committee was constituted by the state government.
Faizabad CJM is also conducting a probe into the incident.
Earlier, the high-power committee had reached Barabanki late on May 18 night itself. During the course of their investigation, the committee also visited Lucknow jail and took statements of officials and other accused who were accompanying Khalid on that day.
The committee reached Barabanki for the second time on Saturday. It met the doctors who had attended to Khalid when he was brought to the district hospital. They also took statements of ADM,SDM and other police officials who were present during the night.
Meanwhile,Khalids lawyer Randhir Singh Suman has questioned multiple inquiries into the death of Khalid.
Suman also met the committee members and told them that documentary evidence related to kidnapping, arrest and murder of Khalid can be provided if required by the committee.
The committee assured us that they will consider our request, he stated.
Suman,in an application to Rakesh, also requested him to publicise the objective of his probe so that any person who has any proof or information about the incident can be included in the probe.
We have learnt that Barabanki police where Khalids uncle Zaheer Alam Falahi had lodged an FIR against guilty policemen is also conducting its investigation secretly. It can lead to destruction of evidence, Suman added.
He said: Probe by multiple agencies can lead to different results as they will assess the evidences differently. Such a difference in opinion will benefit the accused.
Have no hope from SP govt, say relatives of terror accused
Relatives of terror accused Tariq Qasmi and deceased Khalid Mujahid claimed on Saturday that they have no hope from the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) and its Muslim leaders for any relief. Criticising SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi for his claim that Khalid had died a natural death, they termed it as a planned strategy by the SP.
They, along with relatives of other terror accused, were in Lucknow on Saturday to participate in a dharna of Rihai Manch demanding action against officials for the death of Khalid and early tabling of Nimesh Commission report. They also demanded that the 42 accused police personnel named in the FIR after Khalids death and those accompanying him should be arrested.
Both Khalid and Tariq were jailed during the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) regime. So we do not have any expectations from the BSP. But after Khalids death,we do not have any hope from SP either, Zaheer Alam Falahi,Khalids uncle said. He also stated that none of the Muslim leaders belonging to the SP had cared to visit them or even call them.
