Kanpur: Woman killed, daughter critical after car driven by minor hits scooter

A 43-year-old woman was killed and her minor daughter sustained serious injuries after a speeding car driven by a minor boy hit their scooter in Kanpur on Saturday afternoon.

The video of the incident shows the speeding car knocking down the scooter. The impact was so severe that both the woman, who was wearing a helmet, and her daughter were flung into the air and thrown into different directions. Police detained the 17-year-old boy, an intermediate student, and seized the car.

The woman’s 13-year-old daughter is undergoing treatment, and doctors said her condition is critical.

A case was filed against the boy on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. “The boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which sent him to a correctional home,” said a police officer.

The police also detained the boy’s father. Police said three friends of the boy were in the car at the time of the accident.
