The police are searching for a woman in connection with the murder of Dr Suresh Chandra,in charge of Amraudha community health centre, who was found murdered in a rest house of UP Tourism Department in Akbarpur area of Kanpur Dehat district on Sunday evening.
The investigation so far has found that the woman had been employed as an assistant at Chandra’s private clinic, which he used to run earlier in Barra area of Kanpur city. Chandra had a marital dispute with his wife Soni over his alleged illicit relations with the assistant, sources said.
The doctor had reportedly promised to marry his assistance, but could not because of strong opposition from his wife. However,Chandra’s family, including his wife, who is a pharmacist in the Health Department, have denied any knowledge about the woman, sources said.
Kanpur Range DIG R K Chaturvedi said the investigation indicated that the killer belonged to the medical profession as Chandra’s throat was slit and his genitals cut off with a surgical knife.
Chaturvedi said the police are searching for a woman who is about 24 years old. The staff of the rest house at Rania locality told the police that Chandra had checked in with one such woman at 2 pm on Sunday. The staff also confirmed that he used to come to the rest house frequently with the woman.
The staff did not see the woman leaving the rest house. Chandra’s body was spotted by the rest house employees around 6.30 pm. Besides slitting his throat and cutting off his genitals, the killer had stapled his lips, all of which showed that the murder was committed due to extreme hatred, said the DIG.
Chaturvedi said a courier agency in Govind Nagar area of Kanpur city was handed over a packet meant to be dispatched to the doctor’s address around 5.15 pm on Sunday. The courier agent later spotted blood oozing out of the packet and informed the police. The Kanpur Dehat police took the packet in custody and found it contained male genitals.
The agency staff told the police that a woman whose appearance matched with the one who had accompanied Chandra to the rest house had booked the packet and had given her name as Prabha. The mobile number given by her was found to be that of Chandra,Chaturvedi said.
The victim’s brother Rajendra lodged a complaint against the manager, the cook and the sweeper of the rest house and an unidentified doctor alleging their involvement in the murder.
